Get PIT Stock Splits
US share-class symbols accept both BRK.B and BRK-B. When symbol is provided, matching scalar symbol fields in the response echo the request spelling.
OpenAPI JSON Spec Feature Overview Get Point-in-Time (PIT) stock split data for a specific symbol within a time range.
Main Use Cases
- Corporate Action Analysis: Track historical stock split events
- Price Adjustment: Use split data for historical price adjustments
- Investment Research: Study split patterns and their market impact
- Backtesting: Historical split data for quantitative analysis
- Portfolio Management: Track corporate actions affecting holdings
Query Parameters & Logic
Required Parameters:
symbol: Stock symbol (e.g., AAPL, TSLA, NVDA)start_time: Start timestamp (Unix seconds, UTC)end_time: End timestamp (Unix seconds, UTC)
Optional Parameters:
limit: Maximum number of results (1-1000, default: 50)
Validation Rules:
- Symbol is required and must be a valid stock symbol
- start_time must be before end_time
- Limit defaults to 50 if not provided, max 1000
Response Data Structure
data([]PITStockSplitData): Array of PIT stock split data points
PITStockSplitData fields:
symbol(string): Stock symboldate(string): Split date (YYYY-MM-DD)numerator(float64): Split numerator (e.g., 2.0 for 2-for-1 split)denominator(float64): Split denominator (e.g., 1.0 for 2-for-1 split)observed_at(int64): Ingestion timestamp (when this split row was first recorded), Unix seconds, UTC
Stock Split Explanation:
- 2-for-1 Split: numerator=2, denominator=1 (shareholders receive 2 shares for each 1 held)
- 3-for-2 Split: numerator=3, denominator=2 (shareholders receive 3 shares for each 2 held)
- Reverse Split (1-for-5): numerator=1, denominator=5 (consolidation, 5 shares become 1)
- Split Ratio: numerator/denominator (e.g., 2.0 means stock doubles in quantity, halves in price)
Usage Examples
- Get AAPL splits for 2024:
?symbol=AAPL&start_time=1704067200&end_time=1735689600 - With custom limit:
?symbol=TSLA&start_time=1704067200&end_time=1735689600&limit=100 - Get maximum data points:
?symbol=NVDA&start_time=1640995200&end_time=1735689600&limit=1000
Important Notes
- All required parameters must be provided
- Results are ordered by date (typically descending)
- PIT splits provide point-in-time snapshots as they were known historically
- Split date is the effective date of the split
- Use split ratio for historical price adjustments: adjusted_price = price * (denominator / numerator)
